This is the month of celebrations. Many people will be gathering at each others homes and it’s nice to have a lovely aromatherapy spray to set the mood. Making home spritzers is easy in which you can incorporate your favorite holiday oils. Recipes for these room sprays can also be applied to diffusers.
A lot of scents remind me of a holiday smell. Some oils to be mindful of are ones that might have an effect on you during pregnancy. Aromas associated with Christmas differ from country to country. For example in Costa Rica, cypress wreaths are traditional while in Greece, springs of basil are the choice for decorating.
Common Holiday Scents
It is a matter of personal preference which oils to use. Many combinations can work with a spritzer. Here are some common scents to consider:
- Cinnamon
- Clove
- Ginger
- Lime
- Orange
- Tangerine
- Black Spruce
- Cedarwood
- Frankincense
- Myrrh
- Benzoin
In some countries, mandarin, sweet orange and tangerine are a fresh smell that can invoke Christmas memories. Some spice oils such as cinnamon and ginger are a favorite when visitors are due.
Holiday Spritzer Blend
This blend is easy and involves only three oils. They complement each other setting a tone for joy and celebrating with your loved ones.
2 oz spray bottle
11 drops Black Spruce
3 drops Lemongrass
16 drops Cedarwood
1/3 oz Vodka
Mix everything together and fill the rest with distilled water. The vodka acts as an emulsifier.
Black Spruce is a personal favorite of mine that opens up the airways and is very welcoming just like the forest. Lemongrass has an uplifting and stimulating effect while also supporting the respiratory system. Cedarwood is often used to help ease anxiety and calms the environment. All these oils help to relax and uplift, as well as killing airborne bacteria.
If you’d prefer you can also use this in a massage oil with cutting the number of essential oils in half, taking out the vodka and use drops per 1 oz of carrier oil.
