Dealing with Baby Blues

It may feel like you are feeling bad PMS when you are dealing with baby blues. This is typical to happen 4-5 days post baby and goes away around 3 weeks post baby. The hormone shift is what your body is going through making your more sensitive and irritable. Common signs include:

  • Sadness
  • Irritability
  • Anxiousness
  • Not being able to concentrate

Your own mindset work can make a huge difference while you are dealing with baby blues. When I talk to mamas about their own journey dealing with sadness, the first thing I always tell them is that, it is ok to feel sad. When we initially start feeling down, we tend to wish that we did not have the feeling and try to resist it by either buffering. But when you allow the feeling and feel it in your body, a lot of times, it goes away way faster on its own.

After feeling the feeling, you can start by bringing your mind back to neutral with stating the facts that you see. These are the very boring things that you will see not your thoughts about it. This alone can help shift your mind sometimes. I teach these things more in details through my free Facebook community.

Some people have used essential oils to help with both postpartum and baby blues. Essential oils have helped me tremendously in my life, especially in the area of postpartum. Here are some of my favorites to use.

Best Oils for Mood Lift

These are the common essential oils that can be used for baby blues and you can try a combination of a blend that works for you.

Geranium

Lemon

Ylang Ylang

Clary Sage

Grapefruit

Mandarin

Lavender

How to Use Essential Oils

For every 20 drops of oil, you will need 2 tablespoons (30 ml) of your choice of carrier oil for body oil. Put your favorite blend in your diffuser or a bath. When dealing with baby blues and needing a break, I used to put 3 drops of Geranium on a tissue and just inhale deeply until I felt calmer. A great mix is:

Geranium, Lavender, Spearming, Lemon.

Find your favorite smell of this list and use it for a relaxing bath when you need a break.
